Why subscribe?
Hi! I’m Maryam, a food writer and international educator currently based in Manila, Philippines. My newsletter is focused on South Asian cuisine at-large, and Pakistani recipes and food culture more specifically.
Originally from Islamabad, Pakistan, I founded the website, “Pakistan Eats” to serve as a bridge between my heritage and adopted homes. Since then, “Pakistan Eats” has won the Saveur Editors’ Choice for Best Food Culture (2018), and was selected by the Library of Congress to be part of its Food and Foodways Web Archive (2021).
For the past five years, I have written extensively on Pakistani food culture, among other topics. I have reported on Juarez, Mexico’s culinary landscape, the impact of Afghan refugees on Islamabad’s dining scene, and the slow rise of Cambodian-American cuisine. My writing has appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, Food52, NPR and elsewhere.
What to Expect from the “Pakistan Eats” Newsletter?
My monthly free newsletter will share both cooking notes, and reflections on food culture. While the content and recipes featured will be heavily inspired from my active blog, “Pakistan Eats,” I will also draw inspiration from my life in Manila, and previous homes in Islamabad, Washington D.C., Juarez, and Phnom Penh.
